Leicester in the United Kingdom is probably a very unlikely city to be crowned city of the Living Dead, but a string of recent events has put Leicester well and truly in the spotlight of Undead activity. Nov 2010: Leicester hosts the fourth of its annual UK Festivals of Zombie Culture at its PHOENIX Square media centre.

 

Jan 2011: Readership of the Leicester based Zombie E-Zine 'The Zombie Times' exceeds 12,000 subscribers per issue.

 

May 2011: Leicester film 'Zombie Undead' is released on DVD.

 

Early June 2011: A concerned citizen contacts Leicester City Council and makes a Freedom of Information request as to the city's readiness to face the Zombie Apocalypse.

 

June 9th, 2011: Lynn from Leicester City Council and Zombie Ed from Terror4fun are interviewed on BBC Radio Leicester regarding the request for information and the likelihood of a zombie outbreak in the city.

 

June 10th, 2011: The BBC New website covers the above story and this becomes the 'most read' and the 'most shared' BBC News item in the world for more than 24 hours.

June 17th, 2011: Zombie Ed from Terror4fun is interviewed for an hour on BBC Radio Leicester about Zombies and the likelihood of a Leicester centred zombie outbreak.

 

June 18th, 2011: Zombies Invade Leicester. A zombiewalk is held through Leicester, ending at the council buildings, to protest against the lack of readiness that the council has shown in the event of any kind of 'Zombie Incident.' More than 150 zombies attend.

June 26th, 2011: Zombie Ed submits a 'Zombie Incident Survival Plan' to Leicester City and County Councils for consideration, taking into account the fact that even if there was no 'Zombie Incident' then the city would be better prepared to face any kind of emergency .

 

June 27th, 2011: An official repsonse informs Zombie Ed that the 'Zombie Incident Survival Plan' has been forwarded to, and to expect a response from The Emergency Planning Department and the Local Resilience Forums.

 

July 7th, 2011: Still no reply... Are Leicester City and Leicestershire County Councils taking the threat of the Undead seriously enough?
